Learn-ups
I’ve said it before, but the more I work at Automattic, the more I feel the Creed applies to me. This week, I’ll be ticking off a few parts of it and I did so twice today by holding learn-ups for some colleagues. I won’t just work on things that are assigned to me. I…

First user research interview
I sat in on a user research call today. Brandon from Brnkl gave us some fantastic overview of his site and how he has things set up. User research is something I’ve known about for years but never participated in. Really glad I did, it was super nice to hear how our platform empowers someone…

Weird job titles…
One of my co-workers shared this article by Business Insider and mentioned that we feature twice on this list of “17 wild job titles companies are using to attract millennials” Fun fact. Automattic has been using the title Happiness Engineer for at least a decade. Well before the term was in common parlance. I’m a Millenial.…

Not bad considering this site address (dougaitken.wordpress.com) originally was created on Dec 1st 2007 and I hardly used…

Annual GM badge & swag photo
Third time for the “I can’t believe this is my job” post. We have a ton of inclusion type pin badges this year, I went simple with the basics. Yes, that is a branded hotel room key…and I’m happy the data was pulled early for badges since my JPOP rotation ended at the start of…

Early mornings
…are no more. You know you're awake early when… pic.twitter.com/B31XOpmp36 — Doug (@dougaitken) July 25, 2016 Saw this tweet on my Timehop and a colleague messaged me just after 6am and I realised I haven’t had a proper early morning in some time. I used to get up 6/7am for live chat but on rotation,…

A change of course
Today marks two years since I started at Automattic and on Monday, I’ll be doing something new.
